Ingredients for Palak Paneer Recipe

2 cups fresh spinach leaves, washed and chopped
200 grams paneer (Indian cottage cheese), cut into cubes

2 tomatoes, finely chopped
2 green chilies, slit lengthwise
4-5 cloves of garlic, minced
1-inch piece of ginger, grated
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
1 teaspoon garam masala
1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
1/2 teaspoon red chili powder (adjust to taste)
1/2 cup fresh cream (optional)
2 tablespoons oil or ghee (clarified butter)
Salt to taste

Instructions for Palak Paneer Recipe

Heat oil or ghee in a pan on medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
Add chopped onions and sauté until they turn translucent.
Add minced garlic and grated ginger. Sauté for a minute until the raw smell disappears.
Add chopped tomatoes and green chilies. Cook until the tomatoes become soft and mushy.
Now, add turmeric powder, red chili powder, and garam masala. Mix well and cook for a minute.
Add the chopped spinach leaves to the pan. Stir and cook until the spinach wilts down and becomes tender. This should take about 4-5 minutes.
Turn off the heat and let the mixture cool down.
Once cooled, transfer the mixture to a blender or food processor. Blend until you get a smooth puree. If needed, you can add a little water to adjust the consistency.
Pour the puree back into the pan and place it on low heat.
Add salt to taste and mix well. Let it simmer for a couple of minutes.
Add the paneer cubes to the pan and gently mix them with the spinach puree. Cook for another 2-3 minutes until the paneer is heated through.
If using fresh cream, add it at this stage and give it a good mix. Simmer for an additional minute.
Once done, remove from heat and transfer to a serving dish.
Serve hot with naan, roti, or rice.
