Hello, Welcome to Dishreceipe.com. Today we have Palak Paneer recipe. Palak Paneer is a beloved dish originating from North India that brings together the flavors of spinach (palak) and paneer (Indian cottage cheese). This vegetarian delight has gained immense popularity both in India and around the globe.

To prepare Palak Paneer, fresh spinach leaves are first blanched and then transformed into a vibrant green puree. This puree forms the foundation of the dish, infusing it with a distinctive color and earthy taste. Aromatic spices like cumin, coriander, turmeric, and garam masala are added to the spinach, enhancing its flavor profile.

Paneer, a versatile dairy product widely used in Indian cuisine, plays a crucial role in Palak Paneer. Made by curdling milk and pressing the resulting curds into a solid block, paneer is cut into small cubes and lightly fried before being incorporated into the spinach gravy. This allows the paneer to absorb the flavors of the spinach and spices, contributing to the dish’s overall deliciousness and protein content.

Palak Paneer is not only a flavorful delight but also a highly nutritious choice. Spinach, the star ingredient, is rich in vital vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. It boasts high levels of iron, calcium, folate, and vitamins A and C. Paneer, being a dairy product, adds protein, calcium, and healthy fats to the dish.

Traditionally, Palak Paneer is enjoyed with roti, naan, or paratha. The creamy texture and well-balanced flavours make it a favourite among vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike. The combination of tender paneer cubes with the velvety spinach gravy creates a delightful harmony of textures.

Thanks to its deliciousness and nutritional value, Palak Paneer has become a staple in Indian restaurants worldwide. It not only offers a wholesome and satisfying meal but also showcases the diversity and richness of Indian cuisine. Whether you’re a spinach enthusiast or an adventurous foodie, Palak Paneer is a dish that will undoubtedly tantalize your taste buds and leave you craving more.

Ingredients for Palak Paneer Recipe

2 cups fresh spinach leaves, washed and chopped
200 grams paneer (Indian cottage cheese), cut into cubes
1 medium-sized onion, finely chopped
2 tomatoes, finely chopped
2 green chilies, slit lengthwise
4-5 cloves of garlic, minced
1-inch piece of ginger, grated
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
1 teaspoon garam masala
1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
1/2 teaspoon red chili powder (adjust to taste)
1/2 cup fresh cream (optional)
2 tablespoons oil or ghee (clarified butter)
Salt to taste

Instructions for Palak Paneer Recipe

Heat oil or ghee in a pan on medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
Add chopped onions and sauté until they turn translucent.
Add minced garlic and grated ginger. Sauté for a minute until the raw smell disappears.
Add chopped tomatoes and green chilies. Cook until the tomatoes become soft and mushy.
Now, add turmeric powder, red chili powder, and garam masala. Mix well and cook for a minute.
Add the chopped spinach leaves to the pan. Stir and cook until the spinach wilts down and becomes tender. This should take about 4-5 minutes.
Turn off the heat and let the mixture cool down.
Once cooled, transfer the mixture to a blender or food processor. Blend until you get a smooth puree. If needed, you can add a little water to adjust the consistency.
Pour the puree back into the pan and place it on low heat.
Add salt to taste and mix well. Let it simmer for a couple of minutes.
Add the paneer cubes to the pan and gently mix them with the spinach puree. Cook for another 2-3 minutes until the paneer is heated through.
If using fresh cream, add it at this stage and give it a good mix. Simmer for an additional minute.
Once done, remove from heat and transfer to a serving dish.
Serve hot with naan, roti, or rice.
Enjoy your homemade Palak Paneer!

Additional Instructions:

Optional step: If you prefer a smoother consistency, you can strain the spinach puree before adding it back to the pan. This will remove any fibrous bits of spinach and result in a smoother gravy.

If you want to enhance the flavor of the paneer, you can lightly fry the paneer cubes before adding them to the spinach puree. Heat a tablespoon of oil in a separate pan and fry the paneer cubes until they turn golden brown on all sides. Drain them on a paper towel and then add them to the spinach puree.

Garnish the Palak Paneer with a drizzle of fresh cream and a sprinkle of kasuri methi (dried fenugreek leaves) for added flavor. You can also top it with a dollop of butter.

Serve the Palak Paneer hot with naan, roti, or steamed rice. It pairs well with a side of raita (yogurt-based side dish) and pickle.

Additional Tips:

If you prefer a spicier Palak Paneer, you can increase the amount of green chilies or add a pinch of cayenne pepper.
If you don’t have paneer, you can substitute it with tofu or even boiled potatoes.
For a healthier version, you can use low-fat cream or skip the cream altogether.
Feel free to adjust the consistency of the gravy by adding more water or reducing it further, depending on your preference.
To make the dish more nutritious, you can add other vegetables like peas or diced bell peppers along with the paneer.
Enjoy preparing and savoring your delicious Palak Paneer!
